The whole mechanism works mechanically with a spring winding. After activation, the little bird appears and starts to chirp joyfully, turning from left to right and moving its wings and beak. After the song ends, the little bird disappears back into its box.

These bird boxes, also known as snuff boxes, have been manufactured since the 18th century, and the early models are highly sought after and valuable.
This lavishly adorned silver (925 sterling silver) piece decorated with garlands, musical cherubs, birds, and musical instruments was made in Germany in the second half of the 20th century. The dimensions are 10 x 6 x 4 cm. This is a valuable piece of technical ingenuity. The mechanism has been expertly checked and the bellows and spring have been renewed. It functions again as one would expect.
